Coffee FAQs

Why is the label on my product different from what I see online?

Product packaging and labels can change, so what you receive may look slightly different from what’s shown online.

Coffee: Our coffee labels may look a little different from the product images shown online, but the product itself is the same.

Tea & Syrups: These products are made by other manufacturers, and their packaging and labels may change from time to time.

We do our best to keep our online information current, but the physical label on the product you receive is always the most up-to-date source for ingredients and nutritional information.

How do I get help choosing a coffee?

Not sure what to try? We're happy to help! Tell us what you usually drink—or what flavors you like—and we'll point you toward a coffee you'll love.

How fresh is your coffee?

Fresh is kind of our thing. We roast coffee as part of our regular order fulfillment process, Monday through Friday, so your coffee isn't sitting on a warehouse shelf for weeks before it ships.

Orders placed Monday through Thursday before 6:00 AM PST typically roast and ship within two business days. Orders placed after 6:00 AM PST on Friday begin processing the following Monday.

Once your coffee ships, delivery time depends on the shipping method and your location.

What roast should I choose?

It really comes down to what you like!

Light roast: Bright, lively, and often more fruit-forward, floral, or complex. A good choice if you like to taste the unique characteristics of the coffee itself.

Medium roast: Balanced and versatile, with a combination of the coffee's natural flavors and the richer, deeper flavors that develop during roasting. A great all-around choice.

Dark roast: Rich, bold, and full-bodied, often with deeper notes of chocolate, caramel, or roast. A good choice if you prefer a more traditional, robust cup.

Not sure? Check the tasting notes on each coffee or reach out—we're happy to help you find a good match.

How do I get help choosing a coffee?

Start with the roast level and tasting notes. If you like bright, fruity, or floral flavors, try a lighter roast. If you prefer something balanced and smooth, a medium roast is a great place to start. If you like rich, bold, chocolatey flavors, you may prefer a darker roast.

Still not sure? We're happy to help! Tell us what you normally drink and how you brew it, and we'll help you find a coffee you'll love.

How should I store my coffee?

Keep your coffee airtight, cool, and away from light and moisture. A good-quality airtight container in a cabinet or pantry works well.

For the best flavor, avoid storing coffee in the refrigerator, where moisture and odors can affect the coffee.

Can I order whole bean or ground coffee?

Yes! Choose Whole Bean if you have a grinder and want maximum control and freshness.

Prefer the convenience of pre-ground coffee? No problem. Select the grind that matches your brewing method when available, and we'll grind it for you.

What grind should I choose?

The right grind depends on how you brew your coffee. We offer these grind options when you are selecting your coffee:

Drip
Espresso
Cold press(cold brew)
Cone filter

Choose the grind that matches your brewing method. Drip is for standard automatic coffee makers, Espresso is for espresso machines, Cold Brew is a coarse grind for cold brewing, and Cone Filter is a slightly finer grind for pour-over brewers that use cone-shaped filters.

How long does coffee stay fresh?

Coffee is at its best when it's fresh, but it doesn't suddenly go bad after a certain date. For the best flavor and aroma, we recommend enjoying your coffee within a few weeks of roasting and storing it properly.

Once opened, keeping the bag tightly sealed or transferring the coffee to an airtight container will help preserve its freshness.

Smith Teas & Herbal Infusions FAQs

What types of tea do you offer?

We carry a selection of Smith Teamaker teas and herbal infusions, including black, green, white, oolong, fermented teas, and naturally caffeine-free herbal blends. There’s something for just about every tea drinker.

How should I brew my tea?

Brewing recommendations vary by tea, so check the package for the best instructions for your particular blend. As a general rule, black teas and herbal infusions take hotter water, while green and white teas are best with slightly cooler water. Steeping time also affects the strength and flavor of your cup.

How should I store my tea?

Keep tea in a cool, dry place away from light, moisture, and strong odors. An airtight container is ideal for helping preserve the tea’s flavor and aroma.

Does your tea contain caffeine?

It depends on the variety. Traditional teas—including black, green, white, oolong, and fermented teas—naturally contain caffeine. The amount can vary depending on the tea and how it’s brewed.

Are any of your teas naturally caffeine-free?

Yes! Smith's herbal infusions are naturally caffeine-free. Options include blends made with ingredients such as chamomile, peppermint, hibiscus, and rooibos. These are a great choice when you want a flavorful cup without the caffeine.

Syrups & More FAQs

Do your syrups need to be refrigerated?

Most MONIN products don't need refrigeration. Store them at room temperature in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Some products have different storage requirements, so check the bottle for specific instructions.

Can I use your syrups in drinks other than coffee?

Absolutely! Syrups can add flavor to much more than coffee. Try them in tea, iced drinks, sparkling water, lemonades, smoothies, cocktails and mocktails—or get creative and use them in desserts and other recipes.

What syrups do you carry?

We carry a selection of MONIN syrups in a variety of classic and creative flavors. Our selection may change, so check our current product listings for what's available.

Are your syrups sugar-free?

Some are! MONIN offers both regular syrups made with pure cane sugar and sugar-free options. If you're looking for a sugar-free flavor, look for products specifically labeled Sugar Free.

Do your syrups contain allergens?

It depends on the product. Some MONIN flavors contain common allergens, while others do not. Since ingredients and formulas can change, we recommend checking the label on the bottle for the most current allergen information. If you have a food allergy or other dietary concern, please check the product label before consuming.

How long do syrups last after opening?

For best quality, MONIN recommends storing opened syrups in a clean, dry place at room temperature. With the original cap securely on the bottle, opened syrups generally last 90–180 days. If you're using a pump or pour spout, the recommended window is 30–60 days. Keep the bottle and pump dry and away from heat and direct sunlight.
